I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT GANGNAM STYLE. More specifically, how I felt when I first saw it. It seemed unreal. Too fun. Too surprising and thrilling. A computer, or a bureaucracy (which is human beings trying to be computers) would never have designed it.

I’d very much recommend watching the making-of video. It turns out it took time to hone each facet of that perfect absurdity. It has that in common with all of my favorite things. Which brings me to my point.

Bungalow has published weekly for the last four months. And we’ve been overwhelmed by the response. Thousands of you have signed up, and hundreds of thousands have read the stories.

But we’re in danger of falling into the oldest trap in internet publishing — the pressure to do more, and faster, driven by numbers, that eventually leads to washed out and sterile work. Work that is thought, but not felt.

So we’re making some changes. Bungalow will now publish quarterly. Four times a year, we'll go very deeply into one overlooked or under-reported story, and spend weeks exploring each facet of it, in even greater depth. In between those series, we’ll still be hitting your inbox. But with some exciting new stuff that we will announce over the coming weeks.

The first part of every series will always be free. If you want more, the rest of each series will now be strictly for subscribers. The archive works the same way — every series beginning is free, the full range of stories are for subscribers. The price remains the same. But with two new offers.

An annual subscription is now $70. A huge discount for your faith and support. (Because we need it.) And new subscribers will get one entire series to try. If you don't like it, you can cancel and pay nothing.

If you want to see what that looks like, start here.

We love to hear from you so drop me a line if you have thoughts or feelings. If not, watch out for the rest of our news over the coming weeks, and a blockbuster series coming soon.

Subscribers get every piece of every quarterly series, full access to the Bungalow archive, and a free trial, so you can start with a full series and cancel any time.
